Santa Barbara Engagement Photos | Autumn & Jordan

golden hour engagement session at Douglas Family Preserve

I always like to encourage couples to think of their session as an extra-special date. To get dressed up and then maybe go out for a nice dinner afterward. Autumn and Jordan took it one step further. Since our session coincided with their three year dating anniversary, they traveled up to Santa Barbara for their engagement photos and made a whole weekend out of their trip! They were able to get out of town, relax, and even visit the Channel Islands for some kayaking! An in between all of that, they met up with me to take their engagement photos. It was so special getting to help them celebrate this special weekend.

Anytime I am taking portraits, I am always sure to give lots of direction and guidance through posing. But almost immediately after I pulled my camera out, Autumn and Jordan were totally in the moment and doing their own thing. That’s ultimately what I strive for– helping couples feel comfortable and in their own authentic dynamic to the point where they forget about the camera altogether. While I normally have to tell couples when to kiss, I practically had to tell Jordan to stop stealing kisses! Just kidding, there’s no such thing as too much kissing during an engagement session 🙂 But I found it so sweet that they were so easily able to just focus on each other and enjoy this time together. Even in the midst of some crazy winds and unexpected admirers (just wait to you see our sweet new friend Birdie admiring the beautiful couple!), nothing could phase them!

Autumn and Jordan, I had so much fun with you two! Thank you for letting me be part of your anniversary weekend! I’m so excited to celebrate your big day this fall!

Passionate about turning your most heartfelt moments into your legacy of love

When I was first getting to know my husband, Michael's, family, I loved hearing the stories of their marriages— the good times and bad, better and worse, joy as well as sorrow, and always love. But the very first time I saw his grandmother’s collection of family wedding photos perched atop her mantel I had to stop and take in what over 200 years of marriage looked like on display. As I looked on at the images framed on the mantel, immediately all of the stories shared by Michael’s grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins came rushing through my head, and it was so easy to trace them all back to the days they said “I do.” In my role as a wedding photographer, I capture all of the raw emotions of your big day, so when you look back at those images you are reminded of the fullness in your heart and you can see how that first day of marriage created a legacy of love.
