Full disclosure: I’ve known Jackie for over a decade. She has always been the most level-headed and rational person, never really letting her emotions cloud her decision-making process. When the pandemic first hit, they reasonably put a pause on wedding planning. And when that pause turned into a full cancellation of their original plans, I wasn’t totally shocked by Jackie’s candor. She and Andrew matter-of-factly told me they had chosen to cancel their original wedding plans in favor of an intimate backyard wedding at Andrew’s childhood home, surrounded by a close circle of family.
The Details
Truthfully, I couldn’t have pictured a celebration more befitting them. Their day was filled with thoughtful details and no fuss, true to who they are as a couple. They maintained the navy, blush, and gold color scheme Jackie had saved to her inspiration board from day one. Jackie’s maid of honor served as the officiant, and Andrew’s best man gave a heartfelt toast during the reception. Other friends and family were able to watch a livestream of the events. And Jackie was able to pay subtle tribute to her late father, with a photo locket tied to her bouquet. Their reception showcased several of the couple’s favorites: margarita machines, lots of soju, a full dessert spread, and Korean pop music. Their vows reflected their love of adventure, and (to no one’s surprise), Andrew definitely cried.
Jackie and Andrew, I knew you two had something special eight years ago. I still remember the early days of your relationship: Jackie glued to her phone and smiling while texting you, Andrew, while we were on a trip. You took the girl who previously boasted she had no emotions, and gave her a safe space to lean into her feelings. I am so glad you two have found each other and that you now get to build a life together. I was honored when you asked me to stand by your side as a bridesmaid. And I was even more honored when you asked me to step in to photograph your wedding day. Thank you both for letting me be a part of this special milestone. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the two of you.
