Building my Ventura County wedding photography business has involved many different steps. From getting my business license, to building this website, to creating a style guide to help my clients prepare for their sessions. One of the top questions I get from couples is “what should we wear?!” My style guide gives them tips for choosing outfits to best complement my style of photography.

When I met Denise and David for their session at Arroyo Verde, they stepped out of their car looking so good. Like, “jaw, meet floor” good. For that reason, I felt a little guilty asking them to trek uphill with me. But they were adamant- they trusted me and they were up for anything! And as you’ll see below, our little hike didn’t phase them.

I’m glad we made the trek because there’s magic in those hills. With the sun setting so much earlier now, it can be challenging chasing down light before it’s completely gone. But I loved the way the light shone through the back side of the hills to create those beautiful pastel colors. It makes me all the more grateful to live in California and have such gorgeous backdrops in these later months of the year.

I know I’ve done my job well when my couples stop asking “is this okay?” and are simply focused on each other. It’s the best thing about this job: getting to witness the unique dynamic my couples share and seeing how many different ways love manifests itself. For David and Denise, it’s all about light-hearted fun and constant banter. It was an hour jam-packed with so much playful back and forth, which led to so many gorgeous images. Enjoy some favorites from this session!

BEHIND THE LENS

Passionate about turning your most heartfelt moments into your legacy of love

When I was first getting to know my husband, Michael's, family, I loved hearing the stories of their marriages— the good times and bad, better and worse, joy as well as sorrow, and always love. But the very first time I saw his grandmother’s collection of family wedding photos perched atop her mantel I had to stop and take in what over 200 years of marriage looked like on display. As I looked on at the images framed on the mantel, immediately all of the stories shared by Michael’s grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins came rushing through my head, and it was so easy to trace them all back to the days they said “I do.” In my role as a wedding photographer, I capture all of the raw emotions of your big day, so when you look back at those images you are reminded of the fullness in your heart and you can see how that first day of marriage created a legacy of love.
