Surfer’s Knoll Wedding | Mikayla & Jordan

bLOG CATEGORIEs + Search

You might think that after so many years of working in the wedding industry that I’d be desensitized to these things. But Jordan and Mikayla’s Surfer’s Knoll wedding was so earnest. The two met in high school and bonded over being self-proclaimed “choir nerds.” And as I watched them share their first dance as husband and wife, as they lovingly gazed into each others eyes and sang every word of “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran… it got me a little misty-eyed behind the lens.

Jordan’s dad served as his best man. You could tell he was proud to be helping his son get ready for this important milestone, and even more proud to get to stand right alongside him. Their toes-in-the-sand wedding celebrated Hawaiian traditions in honor of the groom’s family.

After their romantic beach ceremony, guests made their way to an intimate reception in the penthouse of the Morgan Stanley building in Oxnard. Amongst many thoughtful moments, Mikayla’s dad gave a toast where he listed all of the reasons he believed they’d make it. And truly, I believe they’ll make it too.

Mikayla, you are the giggle queen! You truly know how to light up a room with your effervescent personality and laughter. And Jordan, you are the kindest soul, who doesn’t let anything put a damper on your good mood (including gardening accidents the week of the wedding). Together, you two really shine. Your relationship has persevered through so much, including a distance literally halfway around the world. From this point forward, your hearts will always be with each other. Congratulations again you two!

Passionate about turning your most heartfelt moments into your legacy of love

When I was first getting to know my husband, Michael's, family, I loved hearing the stories of their marriages— the good times and bad, better and worse, joy as well as sorrow, and always love. But the very first time I saw his grandmother’s collection of family wedding photos perched atop her mantel I had to stop and take in what over 200 years of marriage looked like on display. As I looked on at the images framed on the mantel, immediately all of the stories shared by Michael’s grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins came rushing through my head, and it was so easy to trace them all back to the days they said “I do.” In my role as a wedding photographer, I capture all of the raw emotions of your big day, so when you look back at those images you are reminded of the fullness in your heart and you can see how that first day of marriage created a legacy of love.
