Enjoy this peek at Hannah & Matthew’s Mission Rose Garden engagement session. Hannah & Matthew met during their freshman year at UC Santa Barbara when they joined the same club on campus. Over the years, the two built a friendship. By their senior year, they officially began a relationship. A few years after graduation, the two began the long-distance portion of their relationship. While Hannah returned home to Los Angeles, Matthew began medical school in Washington.
Hannah is the ultimate planner, and even inadvertently planned her own proposal. She had taken the reins in planning a winter trip to Big Bear Lake while Matthew was on break. He took that opportunity to propose, just going with the flow during their beautiful vacation together.
When planning their engagement session, the couple drew from one of their favorite dates as college students— a simple picnic. As undergraduates, they would pack small picnic lunches and enjoy quiet afternoons at various spots across Santa Barbara. For our session, they decided to replicate those past memories in a new locale. We visited the Mission Rose Garden and set out a picnic blanket for some sweet, intimate moments that channeled their favorite memories from dating. After spending some time amongst the roses, we made our way up towards the mission itself for more playful photos at sunset.
Hannah and Matthew chose a mostly neutral color palette, but pops of pink were the perfect complement to the pinkish tones of the Old Mission Santa Barbara.
