Emily & JP’s Mission Basilica wedding was a perfect blend of traditional reverence and rousing fun. The playful pair met during their undergraduate years as biology majors at UCSB. They met through a mutual friend. The study group they formed set the foundation for a real friendship, and that eventually blossomed into something more.
From the beginning of their wedding planning process, they knew that a Catholic ceremony would be important to their parents. This led them to Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano. They were excited for the beautiful and ornate ceremony backdrop, and the chance to capture portraits at the nearby mission ruins afterward.
JP’s brother’s wedding a few years prior equipped them with the knowledge of what to expect for their reception. Their crowd came ready to party. The dance floor was packed all night long. A guest even surprised them with a special wedding present: a custom shotski for the new Mr. and Mrs, which of course was immediately put to use on-site.
The bride’s father gave a lovely speech, reflecting on memories from when Emily was a child. He mentioned her love of performing the harmonica whenever they had guests at the house. He surprised everyone by giving Emily a harmonica, and she happily put on a brief impromptu performance.
