Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo, California is a polished ballroom venue with an elegant feel and subtle rustic touches throughout. It’s especially well-suited for couples who want a beautiful, well-run wedding day without having to manage a long list of moving parts. Why Couples Love Sterling Hills Golf Club
Sterling Hills tends to attract couples who value ease, structure, and a refined aesthetic. The venue is designed to make planning feel approachable while still delivering a classic Southern California wedding experience.
Couples especially love:
- A built-in coordination team, included rentals, and a curated list of recommended vendors, all of which help simplify the process
- The balance of an outdoor ceremony paired with an indoor ballroom reception
- A space that feels private, even though it’s part of a golf course
- A reception room that has been recently remodeled and feels fresh and timeless
This venue is a great fit if you want an elegant wedding day without the pressure of designing everything from scratch.
Couples who want a highly custom, large-scale production with extensive décor installations may find Sterling Hills a bit limiting, as there are boundaries around setup, design elements, and timeline flow.

Best Photo Spots at Sterling Hills Golf Club
Sterling Hills offers several reliable portrait locations that photograph beautifully throughout the year.
Some favorite photo spots include:
- The fountain behind the building, which is ideal for pre-ceremony portraits and has a clean, classic look
- Behind the gazebo, where greenery creates a more intimate, romantic feel for couple’s portraits
- The small hill next to the ceremony space, which is perfect for sunset portraits and gives you sweeping light and a sense of openness
The best light at Sterling Hills typically happens about 30 minutes before sunset, making it well worth carving out time during cocktail hour for golden-hour portraits.
Because sunset shifts throughout the year, it’s worth asking how flexible your ceremony start time can be.
One lighting note to be aware of: the sun enters the ceremony space from the left side. Guests or partners standing on the right side of the aisle may be facing direct sunlight, which is something to consider when planning ceremony timing or positioning.

Things to Know Before Booking Sterling Hills Golf Club
There are a few logistical details couples should understand early in the planning process:
- On-site access is typically limited to two hours before your ceremony start time.
- Depending on your package, your base event time will run 5-6 hours, with an option to add additional hours. This is typically structured as follows:
- 0.5 hour: ceremony
- 1 hour: cocktail hour
- 1.25 hours: grand entrance and dinner service
- 2.25+ hours: reception formalities and open dancing
- The venue includes a planning and coordination team, but they are not full-service planners. Décor setup is supported only within certain limitations. Once the reception begins, coordination transitions to the banquet captain.
- Because ceremonies are held outdoors, it’s important to ask about their backup plan in case of inclement weather.
- In-house catering and bar service are required for the main meal. For all other vendor categories (including dessert), outside vendors are allowed. They also provide a list of local, recommended vendors across different categories.
- Parking is straightforward, with a large on-site lot available for guests. Overnight parking is allowed, which can be a big relief at the end of the night.
- Due to the neighboring residential community, the venue has a firm event cut-off time of 11:00 PM.
- The venue has a no-flame policy; any candles must be electric, and they no longer allow cold sparklers on property.
From a Photographer’s Perspective
From a photography standpoint, Sterling Hills is easy to navigate and flows well from one space to the next. Everything feels accessible, which helps the day stay on schedule — especially important given the tighter arrival window.
One of my favorite moments I’ve photographed here happened during cocktail hour, when Tingting & Jacky stepped away for just-married portraits near the hill by the ceremony space. As they reached the crest, Tingting turned back with the biggest smile, the sunset light hit perfectly, and the exterior of the reception space framed them in the background. It was one of those quiet, in-between moments that felt effortless and genuine.

If you’re planning a wedding here, my biggest advice is this: make time for sunset photos. Even 10–15 minutes makes a noticeable difference.
If you’re a photographer shooting here for the first time, be ready to move efficiently. The spaces are close together, and guests often enter the reception area earlier than expected.
